LAIRP & LAFC-YLP Right-Brain Workshop
LAIRP teamed up with LAFC- Youth Leadership program to help their leaders develop Right Brain Social-Emotional Awareness. Our Social emotional youth training helps leaders understand emotions, self-regulation, Right Brain circles and trauma. Our youth leaders now facilitate community circles with the elementary age students they mentor and they report having a better understanding in navigating conflicts, emotional crisis, and building community.
LAIRP Sends Delegation to à l’ÉNAP
LAIRP had the immense and prestiges honor to attend the École nationale d'administration pénitentiaire (ÉNAP) in France. Leaders from LAIRP had the opportunity to present their experience in implementing science-based restorative practices to combat violence among gang-involved and radicalized populations in California. Additionally, the LAIRP team was able to visit the Eysses Detention Center to explore the social-reintegration programs being offered.
Transforming gang culture through SEL connections
Article featured in the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP) about LAIRP's founder, Carlos Alvarez's role as Director of Student Discipline at Bright Star Secondary Charter School, a public charter school in south Los Angeles. Alvarez says he conducts five to six restorative conferences per week around issues like fights, threats, deregulation, and class disruption that might previously been handled with out-of-school suspensions.
California Dean Dropped His Suspension Rate to Practically Zero
Carlos Alvarez, Dean of Culture at Alliance Neuwirth Leadership Academy in Los Angeles, successfully reduced his school's suspension rate to nearly zero. He achieved this by using Deanslist, a platform for tracking student behavior, and integrating right-brain restorative justice practices. In our conversation, Alvarez shared insights on how these tools help foster a positive school culture, transform disciplinary outcomes, and create a more supportive environment for both students and staff.
